and while a great many of you loved that
review some of you said listen up you
fool what kind of person makes a
two-in-one review without actually
making a standard variation review first
point noted well here is the dell
inspiron 14 standard edition review as
you might have guessed it's rocking the
latest internals including intel's i7
1255 u processor 16 gigabytes of ddr4
memory a modest 512 gigabyte sausage
drive we also have intel's integrated
iris xc graphics additionally we have
wi-fi 6e and bluetooth 5.2 standards on
board and finally this is a 14 inch full
hd plus non-touch captive display there
is a lot to talk about with this laptop
stuff that people you know particularly
look for when they're generally shopping
for laptops so let's get right into it

Unboxing

the packaging on the dell inspiron 14
isn't exactly the most eventful thing
about this laptop but with that said
it's well within the norms so once you
remove the content seal and proceed to
remove the stuff inside the box the
first thing you'll stumble upon of
course is the laptop itself remove all
that protective packaging around it and
here you have the dell inspiron 14 but
more on that in a quick minute you also
have the inclusion of a 65 watt charging
adapter unfortunately these charging

did about 20 years ago no innovation
there to make better swears you still
get non usbc charging out of the box so
you still have this proprietary pin here
frankly it's a little disappointing now
you do have a standard wall outlet
charging cable piece and past that you
have the quick start guide warranty and
regulation information in terms of

Design and Ports

design 

the inspiron 14 has a pretty

similar look compared to last year's

model but there are a couple of subtle

changes so firstly of course you have
that iconic platinum silver color which

you get with most of dell's inspiron

laptops looks very nice and also the

fact that you have a mix of metallic and

plastic surface finishes makes this look

like a pretty high quality laptop

despite being a mid-range machine now

it's worth noting you do have an

approximate weight of 3.4 pounds which

is pretty manageable but not necessarily

the lightest in the 14 inch segment

starting off with the top side of the

laptop you'll notice you have a nice

clean metallic surface finish there's no

particular texture over here i really

like it it's simple it's to the point

and of course in the center you do have

that dell branding with a reflective

mirror-like surface the rear sizes

laptop is a little awkward so you have

this plastic lid like looking thing that

goes from one corner of the rear side to

the other it's kind of there to protect

the hinge and also create some natural

elevation when you unfold the laptop but

it just looks really awkward and it's

something that's definitely new to this

year's series of models now when you get

to the side of the laptop you'll notice

ioper diversity is a little bit more
towards the disappointing side so on one

side you have the dc charging port you

have a rather dated hdmi 1.4 port you

have a usb a super speed port and then

you have a non thunderbolt usb c port

but it does have power delivery as well

as displayport functionality on the

other side you have the good old

headphone jack one more usb a super

speed port and thankfully you do have

the inclusion of a full size sd card

reader but overall as you can see here

io port standards are definitely

outdated for 2022 particularly for a

laptop of this class unless you've got

absolutely nothing better to do in life

you're gonna spend very little time

looking at the booty of your laptop

which means it's the least critical part

with that said you have a standard

plastic surface finish over here you do

thankfully have two long air intake

vents so plenty of air going into the

laptop and you'll also notice on either

corner you have a speaker grille

indicating this is a bottom firing

speaker setup for this laptop as soon as

Keyboard, Trackpad and Webcam

you unfold this laptop you immediately
gain an appreciation for just how
amazing the inner chassis here looks so
for beginners you have a full metallic
finish which feels really premium you
have a generous amount of palm rest
space which is abnormally good for a 14
inch laptop it puts a lot of 15-inch
laptops to shame at that as well but
another great feature here is that
enormous size trackpad you have a lot of
surf real estate here now granted it is
a plastic trackpad so the clicks while
tactile do have a little bit of flex to
them but it's well within the threshold
of acceptability for a laptop of this
class the keyboard on the inspiron 14
honestly feels like it belongs on a much
more expensive laptop it's that good for
example you'll notice you have nice
modern looking rounded edges for the
keycaps but you have an ample amount of
surface area per keycap as well and the
actual keys are very well labeled you'll
also appreciate the fact that typing on
here is so good so you'll notice every
keystroke has a ample amount of key
travel but also it feels tactile and
nimble in nature at the exact same time
and the actual keycaps don't feel
finicky or cheap in the slightest it's a
very high quality experience i also love
the fact that you have a well-lit
backlit keyboard no pun intended overall
this is a fantastic keyboard and add the
fact that you do have a built-in
fingerprint scanner that doubles as the
power button if i was being nitpicky the
only thing i would say is awkward about
this keyboard is the up and down arrow
key it's almost like dell made one
button and then they forgot they need
two so they kind of split it in half but
again i'm being nitpicky here directly
past the keyboard you have the two-tier
hinge mechanism and honestly for the
most part it's sturdy solid and it
should last for the years to come you'll
also notice that awkward plastic lip
thingy i mentioned about earlier in the
review kind of serves as a natural
elevation for the laptop when you unfold
it so i guess it does have an intended
purpose now as far as display dimensions
go you'll notice right off the bat you
have a fairly thin chin at the bottom of
the laptop the actual bezels are also
very narrow and more or less in line for
2022 standards and you have a modestly
thin forehead as well but here's the
real good news in the center of it you
have a full hd webcam finally after
years and years of complaining most pc
manufacturers are jumping from the
primitive 720p webcam to a more
respectable 1080p or full hd webcam this
is great news for everyone i truly have

Display

is being sucked out every time imixed feelings about the display on this
laptop so on one side you have great
stuff like a full hd plus resolution and
a very much appreciated 16 by 10 aspect
ratio you have a standard 60 hertz
refresh rate a great ips panel with
amazing viewing angles and you also have
a matte finish which prevents glare to a
good extent but then just when i was
about to go party i also learned this
laptop has an approximate srgb rating of
56
honestly i feel like a part of my soul look at
this display because of the poor color
accuracy on a more neutral note of
course we do have a peak prices
approximately 300 nits which isn't
amazing but it's not bad either it'll be
more than ample for most indoor settings
however it is worth noting if you are
gonna use this in daylight settings or
close to a window during peak daylight
hours you may get a moderate amount of
glare performance device is prettyPerformance and Thermals
impressive as well keeping in mind we do
have 16 gigabytes of memory alongside
the higher end i7 1255u chip now
day-to-day tasks are going to be a total
breeze as you'd expect them to but even
more demanding tasks like programming 3d
modeling or video editing are very much
possible on this laptop and let's say
you push it to its limit by doing 4k
video editing or rendering for example
it's still a very possible experience
granted you might have the occasional
frame drop but still like i said it's
totally doable with this machine even
when you're doing stuff like casual
gaming games like fortnite can give you
a comfortable 40 plus frames per second
on lower medium settings with that intel
iris xc chip which really isn't bad
performance for a productivity type
laptop in terms of thermals this is a
relatively cool laptop so under
unrealistic peak loads you can hit as
much as 44 degrees celsius but more
realistic sustained heavy loads will
yield you around 38 degrees celsius
average surface temperature which is
respectable now fan noise wise this
laptop can get quite loud with noise
levels peaking around 47 decibels
thankfully this only happens when you're
running extensive activities when you're
doing more moderate to light activities
like web browsing or watching youtube
the fan rarely goes on the more
concerning part here is the fact that
the heat exhaust vents are located
directly beneath the screen i've always
mentioned how this can be a potential
design flaw because it can have a
long-term impact on the health of the
led display itself so something to keep
in mind you can expect around 7.5 hoursBattery and Speakers
of real-world usage on a single charge
which really isn't that impressive that
includes activities like web browsing
watching videos on netflix and doing
some light photo editing now of course
with that said your mileage will greatly
vary depending on the kind of activities
you're doing past that as far as speaker
quality goes this is a pretty impressive
laptop so this small little thing has a
nice crisp audio output coming from it
those speakers are well placed and they
produce some pretty healthy sound have a
quick listen for yourself
Pricing and Summary
starting at 1 000 for the base i5 8
gigabyte memory configuration and going
up to 1100 for this higher end i7
configuration the inspiron 14 is not a
cheap laptop but in return for this
hefty price tag you get a number of
things like high quality performance
thanks to that 12th generation i5 or i7
processor and you also of course get a
very high quality exterior build over
here that really makes this laptop feel
more premium than it actually is you
also have an industry-leading keyboard
quality webcam to go alongside that now
some things that are holding this laptop
back include its mediocre display which
could have been so much better if dell
prioritized color accuracy but you also
have other things like an outdated set
of i o ports that seriously need to be
updated in 2022 and also the fact that
you have lackluster battery life now
depending on what you're looking for
some of these might be red flags but i
still do believe overall the dell
inspiron 14 is a good productivity
laptop and dell definitely has bought
enough changes to keep this laptop
competitive in the mid-range market let
